Is it ethical to use blackmail to collect a debt?

A debt collector who publishes a false statement concerning the debtor to third persons may be sued for defamation. A debt collector who resorts to to Phyiscal or verbal attack on the debtor may prosecuted for assault and battery or sued in tort that behavior. A debt collector who threatens criminal prosection or other harm to the debtor or someone close to the debtor unless a debt is paid may face civil or criminal allegations of extortion or blackmail.
